Steven and Limor Shaw are the founders of the Shaw Method of Swimming. In 1987 they began to evolve applying the Alexander Technique to swimming.
The Alexander Technique has been described as 'thinking in activity'. This applies to any activity sitting, standing, walking, playing tennis or swimming. The Shaw Method of Swimming has evolved to offer a fresh approach to swimming applying the sound principles of the Alexander Technique with emphasis being on the 'means whereby' or the quality of the stroke and integration with the water, rather than 'end gaining' to just mindless swimming length after length without regard to the effect on our body. For example the way we maintain our head, neck and back relationship whilst swimming can impact our spine and significantly affect our breathing.
